Built in 1942, this tower was used for spotting and targeting enemy ships and is the last free standing WWII Lookout Tower in New Jersey. Plans to preserve and open the restored tower to the public were developed by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities. HMR provided extensive historic research, recommendations for interpretation and, directed a full restoration. The work included extensive concrete rehabilitation, insertion of new stairs and restoration of the millwork on the observation and day room levels. The tower is now open on a daily basis to visitors, and received a 2009 Historic Preservation Award from the New Jersey Historic Preservation Office. This project received public grant funding.
