The Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, built in 1910, has a remarkable original Adirondack-style interior enclosed within a white-painted Colonial Revival exterior. A second-story porch with magnificent views of the lake runs the length of the building and had been closed for decades for safety reasons. HMR Architects worked with the Club to reinforce, rebuild and re-open the porch while complying with modern code requirements. The project also included the removal of an unsympathetic late-twentieth century bar addition, and construction of a new bar wing designed to complement the existing building with walls of glass doors overlooking the lake. The renovated building and grounds provide welcome gathering spaces for the Club’s daily use and special events.
