In 1935, the Hartley Dodge Memorial was given to the Borough of Madison by Mrs. Dodge, in memory of her son. This impressive building housed all Borough offices as well as the Fire and Police Departments. HMR conducted a borough-wide programming study to evaluate the space and facility needs for all municipal departments. The resulting recommendation proposed the relocation of the Police and Fire Departments to more suitable new headquarters and the rehabilitation of the Hartley Dodge Memorial thereby avoiding an addition to the historic building. Interior work at the Hartley Dodge Memorial included the conversion of fire apparatus bays into a new courtroom, the restoration of the council meeting room, rehabilitation of additional offices and the installation of an elevator for accessible travel throughout the building. This project received public grant funding.
