The firehouse of the West End Hose Company was built in 1888 and served the Borough of Somerville for many years. Now used as a fire museum, the building had lost its original apparatus bay doors and iconic projected cornice. Working with the Borough, HMR completed the historic research and field documentation which led to a successful State and National Register Nomination. Extensive photographic documentation included within the Department’s archives facilitated the accurate reconstruction of the front façade. In 2011, the interior finishes were rehabilitated in conjunction with the installation of new mechanical systems and lighting to support the museum exhibits.
