SHORT-TERM ACADEMIC HOUSING: INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED STUDY, PRINCETON, NJ info <     1 / 6     > >>  Next Project
PRINCETON, NJ

HMR conducted a Master Plan review for the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) which recognized a need for short term housing for academic guests. IAS retained HMR to design new housing within the architecturally significant Member Housing campus, designed by Marcel Breuer in 1957. The project consists of 19 one-bedroom housing units of approximately 580 square feet each with a living room, bedroom, bathroom and open entry area in every unit. The new housing respects the materials and scale of the Breuer housing while responding to current program needs and contemporary energy concerns. HMR prepared 3D models of the proposed buildings to assist IAS in visualizing the design. The project has been certified as a LEED Silver project.
