BARNEGAT LIGHT, NJ

Barnegat Lighthouse was constructed between 1856 and 1858 near the Barnegat Inlet under the supervision of Lt. Gen. George Meade. The 163-foot brick tower is the second of three almost identical lighthouses in New Jersey built prior to the Civil War. An initial report prepared in 2020 investigated potential causes for water infiltration at the lantern and upper levels. These findings led to the 2022 exterior restoration project which included removal of existing non-breathable paint coatings, restoration of brick masonry, metal roof repairs, lantern structural repairs, replacement of lantern glazing, replacement of tower windows, and application of new breathable exterior coatings.
